Letter Nino Randisi: "I who 'improperly' use Facebook to denounce the Mafia" "

Your account has reappeared, the complaint is the software ... also heard the screams and updates
Two the post of May 4
Updated 7 hours May 5, 2009: Today replicate the comments here and we will take the initiative launched yesterday the "rules of government" of Facebook. Meanwhile, on another disabled account / resumes arrived overnight a communication system. Even in English and a little 'fragilina, but we'll talk later. Update
19.30 on May 4, 2009: no communication, Facebook has reactivated the account spoken of in this post. No communication on Friday morning when elimination of any notice now. But ten hours have passed since the release of this text that has had a decent echo in the network. In California it is morning, it was back to work and someone has recommended ... We depend on the weekend in Palo Alto?
The question - that of the transparency of the service - remains whole and will be discussed with the competent authority, if their leaders they deem appropriate and proper for their position. In my opinion, there is something materia.Domani, a reconstruction of the whole event and a response to the many important comments that have been here and the network - more than the testimony of a disabled less fortunate than me. Or maybe a speaker weaker than mine. Because the software also heard the screams, no?
The post of May 4, at 9 am today
present a complaint against the President of Facebook guarantor of personal data, Professor Francesco Pizzetti. With my attorney I am considering to repeat the initiative with the Communications Authority. What happened? Nothing new, unfortunately, are just one of many that Facebook deleted the account without any "warning" or advance notice, hundreds of personal messages, dozens of texts and pictures, 859 contacts. All this without explanation, without saying why the measure. I have therefore decided to make this story the way a battle is not personal but of law. It is not about getting back my little digital trinkets.
It 's a matter of transparency and legality denied. But we do
a step back and see the facts in detail. Then we'll do some reasoning.
"Your account has been disabled" and not tell you why - At 7.02 am on Friday, May 1st I opened my iPhone from the consultation program on Facebook. I could not enter: login or password is not correct, was the response of the system. I was suspicious: the passwords were stored, they could not be changed by themselves. Then I turned on the computer and saw the message of condemnation: "your password has been disabled." They tell me that I can contact the team that handles customer relations.
"Read the terms of service, Pais" - Obviously I'm writing now at I was given in Italian, and because I know my chickens, even in English. A few minutes later I get an email (in English). Evidently automatic. Said to have received my report, but in the meantime I recommend you read the terms of use - as if to say you have a guilty conscience, look inside. And I re-read them - I had already done, because I deal with this field for 17 years - and I have to confirm what we already know: I have not violated any of the rules of use of Facebook.
But I can not help but notice the folly of a written partly in Italian and partly in English. The steps in our language have not even been reviewed by a correction: there are no parentheses close, errors of vocabulary and some transition from pure Italian "Broccolino. It seems to be the Godfather with Marlon Brando.
But we are not here to make color, a text like this, which is equivalent to a contract is void because it not written in a manner appropriate. But in the meantime - I say - I will respond and give me the opportunity to explain that you are wrong .... " Amenoché
... "to think the worst, with all that follows ..." - To think evil and the sin, there would be two or three "states", the little thoughts on Facebook, in which I joked about current events. In one I wrote that he expected a verdict against the pope's hot dogs (a joke quite warm sull'onnipresenza papal statements, published while raging fear of swine flu).
And then there are several articles in this post / category in which I criticized Facebook, just about what I'm doing now: the fact that if it happens no matter how small the incident with the social network does not have who to turn to because Mark Zuckerberg, the company stubbornly refuses to open an Italian neighborhood and the European Operations, which is in Dublin, is an entity far away, unreachable. Come on, I said to myself, you see that with 7 million users in Italy they take it with you own. Meanwhile
24 hours had passed and the "team" still no answer.
Robots on Facebook and paranoia - though I wrote several times that Facebook is a great phenomenon to be taken seriously. And I am honored by my presence and my thoughts, like other millions of Italians do every day. I did it because if you write in digital culture with hands-on in the various applications, or you just Elzevir useless (and I like, I can say to all my work).
In March, after I reported the account disabled (and then reactivated) Nino Randisi, Sicilian anti-mafia journalist, I was contacted in a confidential manner by a professional Italian. He was the bearer of a message from a U.S. ruling on Facebook. I explained that it was the result of an unfortunate incident of the error of "bots", that is, programs that run in automatic control and user activity. They told me that maybe can happen when a "shifts too much," offers many videos, publish too many photos, send thousands of emails and has too many comments. A failure of the "machine" in short. I had taken note of the correction, I had published, I repeated that I felt a manner not respectful of people and Italian people to handle things just automatically and without a minimum of human wisdom.
(I, for the truth I "move" a little. Mando so many emails - but we are the order of dozens per day - but all the same people, because Facebook is soon to become a chat deferred. Sure, some people suggested to me that it could be argued that the word "pope" is associated with a certain degree of vigilance on the part of the same robot ... but Fb is full of satire on the pope and the Vatican's position, had just caught me ?)
The unspoken accusation and the "feel dirty" - More than one I proposed the idea that someone who has the intention were to leave my account: you can do, you can report the company that the contents of a particular user are "inappropriate", but then there would be seen who's reporting currency. But really, I'm not paranoid at this point and still go even further: I recognize the right of Facebook to get rid of anyone, but only after having made it clear that infringement was committed. The appearance
"culturally" disturbing of all is that being thrown out from day to day without any explanation and puts you in a state of anomie. It makes you feel guilty even if you do not already familiar with the prosecution. Remember Kafka? : "Someone must have slandered Josef K, for without having done anything wrong, he was arrested one morning ...."
It 's a powerful emotional mechanism. I talked with at least five friends who have insisted for entire quarters of an hour on the theme: "Think about something you did, can not have you thrown out for nothing." Instinctively, people tend to feel guilty, who is the subject of a sentence "preventive."
And by the way: at this point had been 48 hours since my email to Facebook: no reply to my message ...
An issue of law - now, if you will, the problem here is not personal. They are not my contacts, which kept very well. Nor is the problem of what he did, as I have not done anything illegal.
Here the problem we face is that of rights of Facebook users and rules of the platform, which can not go against the principles governing the Italian state, as well as being opposed to any common sense. After all these big companies are very "reasonable" when it landed in countries such as China and say that local laws should be respected.
those of a democratic country can be ignored?
It 's time that this nonsense is correct. I can accept being expelled, if I explain the reason for the decision and it gives me the opportunity to argue in my favor.
Any other conduct by the operators of the system is illegal.
Habeas data: gentlemen legislators hear us? - I have defended against the amendment repressive Facebook Senator D'Alia and I'd do it a thousand times. I think there is an obscene tendency to think in terms of the establishment of "normalization" of Internet repression. This is not the case, at least not mine. I'm not asking any law ammazzafacebook and less rain than ever measures that harm American companies that have representation in Italy and availability. Only respect for the rights of Facebook users and any other company who implement similar policies.
Gentlemen deputies and senators, ladies and gentlemen of Europe old and new: take charge of your digital life in a positive way, instead of trying to choke it off, filter, censor, and maybe donate it to the owners of the steam, oh sorry, cables and "cells" ... And then. So the expression
Habeas data is not mine, but now stands as a theme of contemporary society. Not only for my photos on Facebook (which incidentally are still available for the platform and can be, in theory, re-used by them while I am disabled as a user) but for all of us.
There are free services - There are those who argue that the free service, saying "suspend" all rights to users. This is usually the same people who are furious against online newspapers only if they are asked to leave a comment below to add a mail an article.
Apart from that we should consider if by chance we are not endorsing, with a click casually put in broken-down "terms of service," a slow death of any warranty, I would say with all my strength: think again! I
Facebook user-pay service, and any "free" with my data, my time, my content. And I pay with the use that I do, because they enhance and improve it. E 'holds that the covenant on which the digital economy.
There's nothing scandalous in this, if you do not claim to define the free service, but hoards in advertising, as do the newspapers online for that matter, the lifetime of the user.
All clear: the scandal is, if anything, in wanting as a result of centuries old principles. But Don Giovanni to hell, and Josef K. Does not Live Here Anymore. Oh yes, instead?
Give me back my contacts: me and laugh at them or not, from now on this theme is battle.
(At the time of this post is published 76 hours have passed from sending the report message: I have received no response).
